Another very early recording circa 1969 at the Argus Butterfly, Peterlee. Many big names played here but we worked a few times with a great local band called Government. The lead singer was none other than David Coverdale who later went on to front Deep Purple before forming Whitesnake.
We heard him being interviewed on Radio Newcastle recently. He was really inspirational, so we're definitely not downbeat and broken.
You’d have me downbeat and broken
You’d have me be nothing at all
You’d have me downbeat and broken
You just wanna make me feel small
But I’m through with all this talkin’
I’m walkin’ and I’m walkin’ out tall
You’d have me downbeat and broken
You’d have me get down on my knees
You’d have me downbeat and broken
Think that you can do what you please
But I’m through with all this talkin’
I’m walkin’ free as the breeze
Cos now I’ve come to realise
That all you’ve done is wasted my time
And the sooner I get outa here
The sooner you’ll be out of my mind
You’d have me downbeat and broken
Downbeat, down on my knees
You’d have me downbeat and broken
Downbeat, do what you please
But I’m through with all this talkin’
I’m walkin’ free as the breeze
"The sooner I get out of here
The sooner you'll be out of my mind"
